"Finding Clarity" My Journey with Meditation

It was 2012 and I just opened up my pop-up shop. I kept hearing and reading about meditation and all of its benefits. I thought to myself I need to finally give this a try but unfortunately, it took me some time. You know when there's something you should do because it would better your life in so many ways but you then procrastinate about doing it, WHY?!? Why do I/we have such fear around being our best selves?

Finally, I got out of my head and said let's give it a try! I started with my phone timer at 5 minutes every morning. I sat in silence for five minutes and let my thoughts run through me.

It felt so good to have that time. I got HOOKED.

Fast forward 3-4 years and I was so dedicated and passionate about my new hobby of mediating.

My therapist then told me about an app called insight timer where you can set your timer, ambient sounds, and interval chimes to personalize your experience. The app is also home to thousands of free guided meditations focusing on anything from self-love to grief. This app changed the game for me. Every morning I look forward to that time with myself, my soul, my guides, god/universe. Mediation is a precious gift that we can all give ourselves. Here are a few tips to help you get started on your journey

  • Use an App; Insight timer, Headspace, and Calm to name a few

  • Start small; don't think that you have to meditate for 20 minutes. It took me 4 years to graduate from 10 minutes to the 20 minutes I do today.

  • Experiment with various types of meditation; guided meditations, mantra-based, or a breathing based practice

  • Journal about your daily experience at the end of the day; take time to focus and analyze ways that you were more grounded and mindful.

  • Be grateful; be grateful for that personal time of self-care, connection, and groundedness, and remember you deserve it!

Meditation is a journey that never ends. You will continue to be drawn to different people, opportunities, and revelations. This is a journey of self-discovery and unconditional love. With that said I will end this post the same way I end my meditation every single day.

β€œI love you, honor you, and I respect you and I appreciate you loving, honoring, and respecting me. Peace begins with me” I love you all and happy meditating!
